We have become pro-actively
involved in several planning campaigns where we have supported
rural craft workers, organic farmers, permaculture gardeners and
the like in charting a path through the complexities of the
planning system and how it impacts on people who wish to live
sustainably in the countryside.
In the Yorkshire Dales we have helped a farming family who were being frustrated in their attempts to sell organic ice cream to tourists from an underused barn. We successfully helped them through the technicalities in the system, and they are now happily running a popular attraction in the National Park. You read about rheir story here:
All over the UK, we are asked to help to find innovative ways to gain planning permission for micro businesses and small growers to carry out work in rural crafts and agriculture.
All too often the countryside in England is used up for urban workers for holiday and second homes and these people are often the most vociferous campaigners against what are now considered to be untidy and inappropriate activities.
We believe that most small rural craft businesses and organic farms, whilst not conforming to the accepted chocolate box image of a national park, are vital contributors to sustainable living and should be supported not resisted.
